I was wondering if anyone could give me a second opinion on a spot that appeared on the tail of my flame wrasse. It popped up yesterday, I do not remember seeing it before then. Me and my buddy think it is possible lymphocystis, but I wan't to get some other opinions. Also, if it is lymphocystis, can I move my other two wrasses into the DT since it is the end of their QT period, or should I continue to QT all three fish until the flame wrasse clears up?

Background info:

- 3 fish in QT: Flame Wrasse Female, Pink Margin Fairy Female, Malanurus Wrasse Female.
- Treated with Prazi pro twice, 72 hours apart, 26 days ago.
- Have been in QT for 30 days as of today.
- Flame wrasse is the most submissive of the 3, eating only after the melanurus and the pink margin eat, but lately the Flame has braved up and been snatching food from the get go this past week.
- feeding PE mysis, reef frenzy, and pellets. Starting selcon today.
- I did forget to do a water change last week, so it has been 2 weeks since their last water change.
- They are in a cycled 20 gallon QT with: sand in a tuba-wear, live rock, and pvc for hiding places, powerhead, and aquaclear 50, running phosguard and rox carbon.
- Doing water change in 15 minutes.

I think your right lymphocyst. However ask yourself the common questions. Is the fish flashing/ scratching any heavy breathing If it were mine I would hold all the fish in qt until I was certain of lymphocyst, by observing it for at least a week. Heres the criteria I use if the spot goes away in less than 7 days I assume ick or velvet if it gets a bit larger and looks like cauliflower lymphocyst

Looks like Lympho to me too. Keep an eye on it.
Lympho is like a wart to us. Not really a problem, just unsightly. Usually takes care of itself.
Also. Generally associated with less than stellar water quality. Since they are in QT, keep an eye on the water quality because in a small tank, things can go sideways fast

Yea I'm gonna keep a better eye on the water changes, I'm definitely not happy with myself for forgetting last weeks water change.

So if it is still there in a week or so, but grows some it's probably lympho. If it falls off soon it's probably ich or velvet... but what if it doesn't get bigger? Probably still Lymphocystis?

More than likely it's not velvet it looks to big to me and velvet spreads very rapidly the fish will be flashing scratching breathing heavy and possibly swimming into current flow. if it's ick more than likely you will start to see more spots look at this link

It's very helpful in diagnosing
Also lymphocysts are very common don't beat yourself up on missing a WC that didn't cause it.

Yea the wrasse isn't scratching or breathing heavy at all, seems happy go lucky to me. I'll continue to keep a close eye on it for a week or so.

So if the consensus is Lymphocystis after a week, QT until it goes away or into the DT since it's generally harmless?

If lympho is the only ailment and they've completed QT, I wouldn't hold it longer for it.

One thing to note...your prazi doses were too close together. The second dose should be administered 5-7 days after the first to give any eggs a chance to hatch, but not mature enough to lay more eggs.

Looks more like lympho to me as well. I think that's too big to be ich.

ngoodermuth, would you hit them with two more doses of prazi if you were in my shoes?

Personally, probably not unless I suspected that they actually had flukes.

Ya lymphocyst is not contagious then can go into the DT. I didn't catch the spacing on the prazipro treatment until ngoodernuth mentioned it but hears my .02 if your gonna continue watching the fish in qt it won't hurt to treat again with prazipro or if your concerned give the wrasse a fresh water dip and see if flukes come off it if they do then treat if they don't it's a very small gamble but you could wrap up the qt

I agree that this is lympo. However, lympho is viral and as such is contagious. Most fish will have it in their body and never show symptoms of it because they have a stronger immune system. Either way, if that's the only thing keeping him from going into the display, then I'd say go for it. He will likely get better nutrition and less stress while in the display.

Spell check was suppose to say "if" for some reason I can't edit my posts
This is why I say if contagious
Lymphocystis does show some host-specificity, i.e., each strain (or species) of lymphocystis can infect only its primary host fish, or some additional closely related, fish.

I appreciate all of the responses. I've been observing closely, and the spot seems to be getting smaller, so it may be getting better. I am going to observe another day or so, and if everything still looks good I will transfer to DT. Thank you for all of your help everyone!
