Hello, earlier I was moving some rock around and wasn’t paying attention. My thumb hit my green palys I have. I noticed a small gash in the coral. It’s a white slimy substance. Is this palytoxin?

I am not sure, but I wouldn't be worrying about that, you should be more concerned about your thumb. Palytoxin won't be harmful to animals in your tank, but, it definitely is to you. It will go through unprotected skin into your body.. If you see or feel any signs of palytoxin, it needs medical attention right away.

Thankfully I haven’t shown any symptoms of palytoxin!

Can be expelled substance or even a spinoid worm or vermetid extending its feeders
Toxin is in a form of slime or atmospheric and likely not what you are seeing

Ummmm. Just read up on what that can do. Wow. That IS scary, man.

Palys and Zoas never gave me trouble but a montipora did. I cut my hand on one and saw alot of white threads sticking out from the cut. I soon felt really nauseated. A few hours of rest and I was good as new.

Take it from someone who has experienced this PT poisoning sucks. Like the flue × 10. I got it back in '04-'05 moving my tank and pulling all of the rocks/corals out to do so. Holy crap that sucked. I started feeling woosey just as I finished setting the tank back up then went down. Wound up laying on the floor for 3 days sick as a dog muscle aches, cramping, fever, vomiting not knowing why. Thought I had the flue now I know I had PT poisoning. I now have some bowsers in my tank that make me nervous just looking at them...lol. It sucked so bad I that am a bit apprehensive to keep palys and zoas now.

It’s no joke
Be very careful gloves and even eye protection
Don’t put your cut hand in the tank until it’s fully healed.
