Hi all,
I was hoping for some assistance on some possible rapid tissue necrosis issues that I'm running into with two of my brain corals. I've included some photos below. Basically my smaller brain that I think is a trachyphyllia has had it for a while but the issue has really advanced in the past month or two. The larger one as of couple weeks ago started having the issue and its rapidly been advancing. Not sure what to do. I've used a couple different coral dips on them in the past.
-I brought the smaller one to a coral reef farmer locally and left it there for 3 weeks, it was very fluffy and seemed much happier but when it came back sunk back into the same issue and within 2 months i started having issues with my larger brain.

Just some thoughts on the conditions that I keep them in:
Temp:77-78*
Salinity: 1.025 (avg), using HW Marine Mix Reefer and I have a digital refractometer
Phosphates: .36 (always and use Rowaphos in a little bag in the sump)
Nitrates: 18-24 ppm
Magnesium: 1500 avg
Calcium: 450 Avg
Alk: 9.17 Avg

Man that's tough. It going to be tough as the nutrints are way high. A lot of corals don't mind this but you've got to balance the rest of thank to it. And hopefully get those numbers down too.
Past nutrients ante you dosing cal and alk and how.

Do you have enough light?

with your higher nutrients are you haveing Dino cyano or diatom problems or weird algaes. I believe there is some truth to those putting funky stuff in the water.

Hi there!
You think the nutrients are high? Light wise they definitely are, 4 T5 ATI's, 2 are aquablue specials and the others i forget but they get replaced every 6 months. The Diatoms only flair up after a water change but go away as long as i dont disturb the sand bed. I do have hair algea and dynoflagellite issues from time to time.

Yea most folks would freak about them yea. But Ive seen stranger things.
are you on Rodi? You really shouldn't see a flare up of diatoms.

Hey man - yep, I have a 6 stage RODI system with 0 TDS on the outbound

Really wired. You shouldn't have those flair ups. Ther could be built up funk in there I don't know. If your concerned about disturbing the sand that wouldn mean a build up of stuff.
So it could be funk in the water from the sand and what ever is feeding the bloom.
I would as a cheap fix look at a polypad or gfo and then add some carbon on top of that. Maybe freshen it or if your not use it more ageessilvly in a reactor or bag on the return pump.
You probably like me haven't tested for ammonia in forever may eat to look.
Last thing. would be flow. It's possible if it had the wrong flow for a long time it wouldn't breathe right or absorb minerals and n and p.
