I’m looking at upgrading to an oceanic 180 bow front. It’s for sale right now at what I believe to be reasonable price and I feel it won’t last long (maybe I’m wrong). I haven’t seen it in person yet but I’m told it’s like new. I don’t know the manufacture date but I know these tanks haven’t been made since maybe 2011. I guess my main concern would be age but not sure how much emphasis I should put on that. What else should I be thinking about here and taking into consideration?

I would definitely reseal it. Even if it's holding water now you could loosen the seals from moving it.

I have never heard of an oceanic tank developing a leak with age. I had ones built in the 1970s and that still held water before I gave it away recently and still using two from the 1980s. No experience with a bow front.

If moved carefully you should have no leaking issues. Better check the tank out 'real" good before paying ! Sounds like a good deal to me if as advertised

That is true. I’d actually be buying it in preparation of buying a house and moving out of my condo, so in the meantime it’ll be in my parents basement where I could leak test it.

This is the sort of thing I needed to hear. Thank you

I’m not sure how this person got the tank but they’ve never had water in it and said they need the space ASAP. They claim to know the previous owner who apparently had no issues. I’d like more details there but I’d definitely look it over really well

By 2011 Oceanic wasn't Oceanic the best aquarium builder of all time they had been bought out already, by 2011 according to link below stopping large aquarium building

True Oceanic aquariums always had build date labels.
If the stand is immaculate condition it maybe okay to purchase. The ones I have seen since it was pressed wood would bubble up from salt creep.

I actually already came across that article. I am very curious to see the build date. The stand appears to be in good shape although idk how it was built. I wouldn’t mind building a new stand if I had to but I do see if the stand was no good the price should reflect that

I told them I would take it, so at least they don’t sell it before I can get there (it’s 1.5 hrs away). So I’m going this weekend. Hopefully everything looks good
