Just got back into the hobby and lost half my fish to velvet. 10 years ago I never used a QT and had ich but never lost a fish. This time I really regret not using a QT.

I'm currently using NSW in my tank but am afraid it might bring more parasites/diseases after I treat my fish. If I leave my NSW sitting in the water storage tank for a couple weeks - month would it be clear of parasites/diseases since there's no fish to host on?

Its possible some kind of parasite could get in the tank that way. Since we don't know what types of parasites could be in the water theres no way to know if letting them sit for 2 weeks would kill any and all parasites. If your that concerned you could let it sit for a couple weeks with a uv unit running in the storage container. If it was me I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Unfortunately, unable to hook up UV to my container. I'll probably just let it sit awhile before I use it.

Why not go back to the method that worked?

I do not QT. I get ich on new fish because of the stress of shipping etc. I provide plenty of gas exchange for my tank and the ich never spreads and once the new fish starts eating the ich goes away after some time.

I find QT to be a huge stress on new fish and it hurts more than it helps. FWIW

I do use the same method. Only difference is that this time I'm using NSW and a good amount of the fish I have are caught locally.

funny you mention. Years ago I was into saltwater and corals. Never lost anything never qt anything either. Fast forward to now. Tried again. Velvet and. Brook. It was horrible. Went fallow 3 months. Now have a coral and separate fish qt system
