I have an ocellaris that was paired with a male for some time until he had a bad encounter with the filter system. She's been on her own for quite some time. We've tried getting new guys for her but they keep getting too stressed or dying a mystery death. I've had my eye on a gorgeous maroon clown that I was wondering if I could pair with her. She's only about an inch long and might end up becoming female as I believe the maroon is a bit bigger than she is. Would this be possible? Better yet, would this be a good idea?

That’s a bad idea. How did your clown have a bad encounter with the filter ? Healthy clowns don’t just get sucked in and are your QT new additions ??
Using acclimation boxes ?
Getting the right size clowns so they can pair up ?

There's a random opening in the tank that a couple fish actually got sucked into. We patched with a netting and it hasn't happened since. I always make sure to get a smaller one than her so they could pair but the guy never seems to make it. The last time one died we summed it up to the fact that he was from a fresh shipment and may have been too stressed from shipping, acclimating at the store, being caught, and reacclimating again.
