I need to put some sand in my qt for my leopard wrasse and I really don't feel like buying several pounds if I don't need to. I have what seems like a disease free frag system with some sand in it. Would it be possible to take a small amount of the sand out and treat it with, say, food grade peroxide (soak for a day?) Then rinse it and ue for the qt?

Yea should be fine. I wouldn’t soak it for a day. 20min maybe.
You don’t really even really need to “Sterilize ” I think.

Just trying to not transfer any rogue dinospores and be back in the same boat. I don't think the frag tank has velvet, but can't be too careful I guess.

True that.

I truly think 35% peroxide even diluted a bit would sterilize that sand nicely for use wo dissolving anything, its really good for that. 3% is actually kind of weak, we make fun of it in the peroxide threads comparatively as peroxide elitists might do. 35% is a horrible injury risk and might shouldn't be available as it is, or at least without passing some kind of decency quiz lol but its nonetheless quite useful around the reef. I don't believe id ever own 35% in a house where there are children under 12. teenage boys, not at all. its just asking for trouble if they find out about it.
