I have a T5 fixture on my tank but I know I will want the shimmer back from LED's. I was wondering if there are any cheap single LED's that could do this without negatively affecting the color already output by my T5's? I was thinking just 1 10k LED that is just bright enough to create shimmer (all you need is a point source of light). Any DIYers here have suggestions?

depending on how much space you have, there are a bunch of ways to do it.

One suggestion would be a steve's leds heatsink and a few 3 watt leds (I would do a mix of blue and white so it didn't offset your T5 colors)

Yes reef Bret strip would give the shimmer and the pop if all blue LEDs

Reef brights work well as they give just a little shimmer. I have them over my frag tank and use them for shimmer and a warm-up for the tank before the T5 lights come on then for coral viewing in the evening after T5 shut off. You can go as complex as fabricating custom brackets or as simple as double sided tape, I've done both. Brackets are safer but tape is quicker and more versatile.
