I have this trachy that I’ve had for a few weeks earlier this week noticed it started to turn white around edges. Is there any dip I can do or is it some type of infection? Haven’t seen anything picking at it and I have others in the tank that are doing great. I have a frag tank should I move it to there and see if it does better?

You can use an iodine based reef dip. Hard to see but it resembles mesenterial filaments which could be a stress response. Make sure other corals nearby are not able to sting it. That is beautiful trachyphyllia.

Thank you. It happened shortly after I got a pearly jaw fish. He moved under it for a little bit and I think his digging and moving sand had irritated it. He has since moved to under the frag rack so I filled the sand in under it. It has seemed to be healing. If it does get worse I’ll dip it and move it to the frag tank.

Yeah the trachy still puffs up and early snatches LRS all the time so I don’t think it’s during just ticked off lol

It is tough to see in the picture but the trachy is about 6-8 inches away from
The torch when the torch is fully extended. No way it was getting stung. I think I figured it out though. I think it was getting too much light and bleaching. Talked to my local reef guru and sent him a pic. He suggested I move it to a shaded area which I did and it seems to be doing better

It sure does look like a sting. You'd be surprised how far those torches can reach!

The photo with the torch in it almost looks like there is a space invader pectina (just beneath the torch tentacles). They also have quite a long, potent reach.

So a little update for everyone. I believe my magnificent rabbit fish has taken a liking to this specific trachy. I was in the room and I swear I saw him take a couple pecks at it. I was on the other side of the room so didn’t see it clearly. But I know from stories I’ve read they can nip at LPS and zoas. Moved the trachy down into my frag tank so it can recover in piece. Bums me out I got the get rid of this trachy :( it was a beautiful one. My magnificent rabbit fish has also never picked at any other LPS either which is weird considering I have two other trachy in the tank and two lobos. This trachy was the last one added though and maybe he just liked this one.

Yeah I knew when I got him there was a chance. Thought I was in the clear since he had been so good with all other LPS in the tank. Surprised he never picked at any of my other trachy or lobo. Going to be keeping an eye on those one though just in case.
