I'm reasonably sure it's not a sponge, despite it's appearance in the picture it has a leathery skin.looks more spongy to me but im just an amateur at this

Do sponges typically close up to the touch? The only ones I've had in past tanks are the pineapple sponges so, I've not really got any experience with them.I trust @KJ. The middle looks like a sponge to me. The soft tissue on the ends from the image resembles a Tunicate for sure. It is very cool either way.

Sponges don't react to touch. Definitely a tunicate. They are pretty cool in a tank. I have 3 orange ones that are about 3" long.Just prodded it again ;Hilarious......... It closes both siphons pretty rapidly when touched.
