From the time I started this tank last year til now, there's been a ton that I've learned. This has been a great resource! Something from last year that I've just noticed along with an observation today, brings me to this thread.

So, I've read a good number of threads detailing an issue in treatment, but not much more context around the intestinal worms (none that I found anyhow).

1) So, assuming that a fish has worms, then are the following assumptions generally correct?
  • A fish with intestinal worms will transmit their parasite to other fish in the tank.
  • A fish with intestinal worms will always have worms if it goes untreated.
The only fish that I see pooping on a regular base are the Kole and the Foxface. I swear the Kole Tang is pooping every 5 minutes! I've not seen one issue with it.

However, this morning, the Foxface was behind a rock shelf, and as I was passing by the tank, I noticed a LONG white stringy thing coming from behind the rock as well. Before I could get around to the side of the tank to see it, the Foxface swam further behind my rock structure and rested towards the bottom. When it decided to continue meandering through the tank, there was nothing there, but a messy blob also floated past too. It was hard to tell. It looked white and stringy, but also had some greenish color and mass. That's today. And, with the knowledge from this forum, I'm immediately thinking, "WORMS!" Then I also, thought back to one of my clowns, and I didn't think much of it at the time but it had a white stringy too! And, I found a photo. See below.

Don't have a photo from this morning, and I'm continuing to watch for poops. Never thought that would ever be a thing of mine to do...wow. Anyway, the clown and FoxFace are suspects of currently and/or previously having worms.

2) Now, going back to my assumptions above, should I believe that the clown still has worms?

3) Can the intestinal worms transmit from one to another in the tank just by being in the same tank? I didn't see an answer to that anywhere.

4) A fish with worms of this sort, will it always be white stringy poo if worms are present? Or, it comes and goes from one day to the next or one week to the next?

and

5) I read that so long as the fish are eating well, which the Foxface and clowns both do, then it's not too much of a concern? QT and treat? Just live with it?

I would treat it, take froze food and equal parts (1 scoop) of general cure and focus, mix into the thawing frozen food. Feed it for 14 days and that will treat any sort of internal pest. If one fish is infected they probably all are, or will be.

Don't know why the pictures weren't posting from the other message.

That is white stringy poop pictured.

The Good thing is this treatment is reef safe. As long as you bind the meds to the food with focus you can feed the medicated food to your DT.

As recommended above, treat for 14 days as long as you don't see any white stringy poop anymore you can stop at the 14 day mark. Sometimes it does take up to 21 days.

It is safe to assume the parasites can be transmitted from fish to fish with tankmates.

It's best to treat ASAP since the fish are still eating.

What happens if an invert gets ahold of the medicated food?

General cure contains praziquantel and metronidazole.

Prazi won't hurt them.

I don't think the metro concentration would be enough to harm an invert. I don't know about nems, but I have urchins and shrimp etc. It's never bothered any of mine.
