Hey guys quick question for everyone. I got home last night and saw there we're some spots all over both of my triggers and what looked like a little spot on a wrasse.

I havent added anything new to my tank in months so that makes me questionwhat it really is.

All my fish are eating and swimming around, no signs of scratching either. They're acting completely normal..

Here's a quick picture of my male that looks the worst out of the two.

That very much looks like ick. If you have a closer- in focus picture I could confirm that for you. The ick was already present in your system and something happened to lower the trigger's immune system enough to let the ick show itself.

I'll see if I can't get a better picture tonight.. I know ick is always in every tank just don't know happened to make it show up..
Thanks

That's not true. If you follow strict qt procedures then it is possible to have an ich free tank.

^^^ correct. It's possible to have an ick free tank. With proper QT protocols on everything from fish down to corals and snails, you can have a completely disease free tank.

My apologies. I'm definitely wrong :) I tried to get some better shots of it but no luck. I'll give it another go tomorrow when lights kick back on.

Is it strange that it would just randomly show up though? I've had these triggers for almost 2 years now id say and never had any issues before, and have never had any ick cases in my tank before as well.

I dont think it's strange at all. Something happened to reduce the trigger's immune system. You may never know what, or you may find out some days, weeks or months later. Who knows? Could be stray voltage, or a "disagreement" between tank mates (might have been short lived), bad fish food, or the ick population may have been able to build up to the point of overwhelming your weakest tank member's ability to keep it in check. This may sound strange, but his immune system may be slightly weaker than the rest. I'm just speculating because I don't actually know what caused your flare up, but naming possibilities.

You can choose to manage it if you want I would feed selcon and garlic and ich itself really is not know to kill fish but you decide.

Just to be clear as well you have not added anything including corals, rock, macroalgae, or inverts? Cysts can ride in on these items and cause an outbreak.

I added some coral on Wednesday but it was from Jason fox's live sale. Other than that haven't added anything in the last 2 months or so

Also forgot to add I've been feeding with selcon since I saw it pop up. I've gone through many posts about how to treat ick, I was just hoping to get a positive Id here.

Having added the corals could be what did it. You got your ID though..... Definitely ich. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. :)

Well good news! I forgot to post last night but whatever was all over my triggers is gone. Back to looking completely normal.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in :)

That happens with ich. It's part of the parasite's life cycle to drop off the host after several days only to begin the cycle again. It's not gone from the tank and will probably show up again. Just FYI Hopefully it wont be very bad and you'll be able to control it well enough without treatment. I would advise treatment for it though. Good luck! Glad he looks better :D

Right, i do remember reading that. Isnt the only way to completely treat it is have the tank go fallow for 72 days? I think Copper works too, but that's not an option with all my coral.

Yes.... Your fish would go into QT for the same time frame. You can treat them however you see fit (copper, CP, TTM or Hypo) and leave all inverts and corals in the tank to go fallow for 76 days. I've done it and it sucks, but it works.

Alright thanks for all the info again. I think im going to keep an eye on everything for now as i dont think i could ever catch every fish without tearing apart my tank and that's something i'd rather not do at the moment. :)
