Hi all,

here’s a summary of my current situation. Last Dec, velvet wiped out my entire tank. So I did a 80 days fallow. In which during this period, I didnt add any new inverts/corals into the DT.

Concurrently, i QT the new fishes. Added them into the DT around mid April. The fishes are: 3 green/blue chromis, 1 yellow wrasse, 1 purple firefish and 1 lawnmower blenny.

In May, someone gave me a common clownfish. So i QT it for 4 weeks. No medicine was added into the QT. Just purely observation and all looked good. I then added the clown into the DT around mid June.

All was fine for around 2 weeks before white spots started appearing on the clown. The other fishes were fine. No spots. I removed the clown with much difficulty after 2-3 days effort. Put it back into QT with cupramine. Unfortunately, it died a week later.

So for now, can I assume that my original batch of fishes are infected with ich? The clown was removed in mid July and till date, the fishes are all fine with no spots.

Are you confident of the ich diagnosis with the clownfish? Is so, the existing fish were exposed to ich, but it is difficult to say if they were infected, and if so, if there is still a chronic infection in the DT.

I always avoid observational quarantine, it often does not show diseases soon enough, and then, if it does, you have to treat the fish anyway.

Any pics of the clown?
I would assume all fish are infected to be safe. It’s possible the clown had brook - which copper doesn’t treat.

If any symptoms showing, please post pics under white lighting and describe any unusual behaviors such as twitching, scratching, heavy breathing, loss of appetite. Etc

Are you confident of the ich diagnosis with the clownfish? Is so, the existing fish were exposed to ich, but it is difficult to say if they were infected, and if so, if there is still a chronic infection in the DT.

My experience has been your tank is infected and you either pull and qt your remaining fish or try and just manage the ich within the system (just live with it) its possible your current fish are hardy and healthy enough with good immune systems that they just haven't become sick yet. I would wait and see what others say but if it's 100% ich general action would be pull the fish and treat with copper power for 30 days keeping dt fallow for 45-60 days

I've had ich break out in a tank up to a year after the last infection was visibly seen, but the typical limit is about 6 months.

My opinion - dwarfed by Jay - you should leave your tank fallow again - Pick your protocol. Treat your existing fish - with a 30 day copper treatment.
