I feel what ya mean, but personally I am getting used to it although I may be trying to make a switch over to a 75/90 but that is just so the fish have more room. I have a second 55 gal in my basement that i began taking apart and I am going to try and switch its dimsensions to 48x21x12.. just swapping height and depth

No hurry take your time and set it up how you like it that is what matters most

Yup, that rock will eventually become live.

Here is my recommendation, since it seems you have not picked up any rock yet. Order reef saver rock from Bulk reef supply. order 30# and when you get it play around with it in the tank while it is empty. You wont have to deal with getting your hands wet and can take your time.

I spent plenty of time researching scapes, but nothing compared to actually getting my reef saver rock and playing with different looks. After you get a scape you like go pick up a small live rock from the LFS and throw it in there to seed it.

The more I look at how beautiful some of these tanks are, the more I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. To have a tank as nice as these I probably need to save up a gazillion dollars.

Wow looking good guys!

The tank I'm getting comes with some live rock so I'm going to mess with that stuff & get some of the Eco Reef Marine rock for the tank

I should have pictures posted up after June 8th!

Mines a 54 corner tank with mostly sps.

My rock scape is the same today although after upgrading lights and getting parameters back in line its more colorful than this now. I'll get some pics later tonight if I remember!

It doesn't take a "gazillion dollars" just patience. Get the rock scape (shape) you want. Then decide what you want to grow and where. Almost everything I have started with frags. I like a lot of color so I have tried to incorporate many different types of corals with a variety of colors. Just do the research before you purchase anything and before you place your coral where you want it to eventually grow. Many corals "hog" a lot of space and send out very long tentacles at night. If you are not careful in your placement, they can destroy a beautiful piece overnight. (Ex. - I placed an acan too close to a plating montipora and the next moring over half my monti had been consumed.) Keep a close check on your water parameters and make sure the fish you have are reef-safe and compatabile with each other. Introducing the same sized tangs, even different species, at the same time kept my tangs from attacking each other.

Just be patient and enjoy the process.

Here was it at first

Then I went for a two pillar design

Now I have three pillars so plenty of room for frags ect, almost no sand bed space though, I hate the 55gal dimensions :(.

PS. Don't use any "live rock" or "live sand" More than likely youl get a pest or two which youl wish you never encountered. Its best to just start with all dry rock and sand, seed the tank with live bacteria in a bottle and let it cycle. Using live rock was probably the worst choice I ever made.

Here is my wreck.....

Adding backing next week and split tube to hide wires and cables. Sand dunes are proudly created by **** diamon goby that is going to bring the whole rock pile donw on himself as he proceeds to tunnel under all the rock and blow the sand against the front glass. :squigglemouth:
