Potassium Test Kit

Fyi: Unless you have lab grade rodi and a 1ml diabetic syringe, you will not get consistent readings with the hanna cal checker.

i agree the calc checker isnt ready for club use at this time as it is way to dificult to use and get consistent results and will have peoples heads rolling...

I'll take your advice and defeer until something better comes along, If anyone thinks of something else affordable that would be useful to all speak up!

OK, will do the potassium kit and look into the stronium also. I have been looking around and the New Red Sea Potassium kit looks really good and not to hard to use. I even think the critter carries them, if so will get it from them. Here is a link to the kit how to.

I have really liked the last tow red sea kits I have gotten. ALK and CAL are the two that I have purchased but I have been very impressed by them they are easy to use and the powder does not tend to end up solidifying like some others

I have never really tested my potassium before and I am beginning to wonder if it had something to do with the tank problems I have had over the last few years. I read something about orange montiporas turning gray and I had some do that along with all the other sps getting washed out. I actually have one monti cap that I got probably 6 months ago that turned purplish gray and started to die off. All the other corals that I have added in the last couple of months are doing well and this one is slowly recovering but is still the wrong color. Maybe I should check my potassium as well.

I made a fish trap out of acrylic years ago. It was kinda sloppy since I needed to get a fish out in a hurry. It is roughly the size of the aquamedic one and I use two rubber bands to pull the door down when I pull out a pin that goes through a hole in the door. Works great though.

Mike, It is an essential part that is often overlooked easily. My Reds were really dull, like a pinkish. Since I am running bio pellets and somewhat a ULNS, it has been known to deplete potassium faster. I tested my water and sure enough it was low around 280. I raised it up to 400 with the Red Sea Coral Colors B Potassium. Now will just have to wait and see how the dosing affects it. I also tested my Iron and was very surprised to see that I have near 0.00 ppm readings. Makes sense since corlas use this to make yellow/green colorations and i have a lot of green/yellow sps. I will test my water change water and see what it reads before dosing that.

For the Club I picked up the 2 Red Sea Pro Multi Test Kits at the Critter the other day. Reef Foundation and Coral Colors Pro Test Kits.

I asked Chris about ordering the Fish Trap that Dowtish recommended, but he does not get Aqua Medic stuff, so if we want that particular one we need to order it online.

Thanks Rick. I think I really started having problems when I got my huge skimmer and it cleaned up the tank quite a bit. At first the corals colors got much brighter but later on the colors started to fade and the corals got really washed out. Eventually they started receding. I had better luck with a "dirtier" system. Colors weren't as good but the corals were healthy and grew quickly.

All the corals I got from you are doing great and growing except for the birdsnest. After a couple of days I came home and it had RTN'ed for some reason. Thanks again for the frags!

I like the red sea pro kit. I have a KZ that I do not use if you need it and/or you can bring a sample for the red sea. the only thing to remember with the red sea is it is reverse of most titration kits. less drops reagent = more K.
