A couple weeks ago I had a dragon soul torch that did a complete poyp bail out. He floated over into my Goni Garden and destroyed a prized coral. Have no idea what caused it, as it was a full head and showed no stress. Still bright and colorful when it detached. No brown jelly or anything else I could see. Today, I get home from work and see my ultra rare elegance halfway detached. Completely fluffed up and out, just detached from half the skeleton. What can I do, please help. Don’t want it to detach and go into another prized coral, but this is my wife’s prized coral.

he is low flow, and been in the same spot for over a year.

salinity 1.026
Ph 7.96
Alk 8.2
Calcium 435
Mag 1340
Nitrate 8-9
Phosphate .091

I am battling a little dyno issue but nothing is on the corals, only on the sand bed

That looks like an elegance coral, not a torch. Have you changed your flow at all, lighting? It's strange that it would bail after a year in the same spot. Poor water quality also can cause it to bail out, water change?

I believe the op said a torch bailed out a couple of weeks ago and now the elegance is starting to separate. I wouldn’t think it would be coincidence. My go to move is a water change but I just don’t know what could cause bailout like that.

it’s just crazy because he is fluffy and full sized right now, looks completely happy, but half way detached

My parameters have always stayed pretty stable. Nitrates between 5-8 phosphate between .05-.90. The parameters I originally posted are from right now, just ran all those tests when I got home

I do not have any experience with them actually detaching, only receding. As dinos are typically caused from very low nutrients, has anything changed recently? Your current parameters look great.

I still might suggest a 20% water change. Normal bailout on euphyllia is typically caused by poor water quality. Do you use RODI water in your tank?

Yes, I use RODI, and everything was good on my last ICP test. Just did a 15% water change on Saturday. Temp, ph, and salinity were matched

Issue I have right now, is the elegance coral is one of our favorite corals, and it looks happy (which makes this hard) but I don’t want it to fully detach while I’m at work and kill acros or other sensitive corals. This hobby is so brutal sometimes

I used to have an acrylic fish trap, wonder if I could put him in there and see how he does, but has anyone seen one do this? Can’t reattach to the skeleton right?

Strange, there is something definitely bothering them enough to bail out. Sounds like their not starving, flow/light good, alk/calc good....

Pests? Something picking at them?

I have heard people successfully keeping them in jars and things after bailing. Not sure I have ever heard of them reattaching though....
