Potential Fish List

Good Morning!

I am just about finished cycling my new 120 gallon tank with 240 pounds of live rock (see here for build thread) so now the fun part has begun. I've compiled the below list of fish that interest my wife and me. I would introduce any same species together to try to prevent any aggression, and am thinking at the moment that the Klunzinger's Wrasse would go in last. That being said, I am new to saltwater aquariums so there are more than likely some non-compatible fish in here that I will need to rethink. I'm hoping to get some expert opinions on these.

Future plans for the tank are to add softies and LPS, and well into the future try to get into SPS but I want to make sure I can maintain stable parameters for a long period of time before I do that (not to mention I'm too broke now to afford any more powerheads).

Red Tail Trigger (Wife really wants, I know this would be a gamble)

Nice list! I wouldnt recommend putting two hawkfish together, not only because they are aggressive towards each other but because they are even more agressive towards anything tnhhat perches (your blenny). If your wife is really just more focussed on getting a trigger I would get a blue throat. I have one and he doesn't touch any inverts . If she is focused on the red tail you might just have to be willing to repeatedly add more snails and inverts. Besides that the fish all sound awesome! Good luck!

I would pass on the Klunzinger too, thalassoma wrasses don't make very good reef inhabitants and that particular one is pretty aggressive as well. The trigger would be next, if you really have your heart set on a trigger I'd look into a blue jaw and then plan your tank around that fish cause they like to rearrange stuff and will eat inverts and small fish.

Thanks for the responses. I can go ahead and cross off the Longnose Hawk then since I hear the Flame is one of the more docile Hawks. I will also replace the Red Tail with a Blue Jaw. The Klunzinger was my personal favorite on the list, but it was also the primary reason for starting this thread because I knew it might not be such a good idea. With all of the live rock I don't want to overstock so I will cross him off the list for this tank and keep him in mind for anything new in the distant future.

Does anyone have a favorite fish I'm missing that could be a good addition?

Becuase you have a couple predatory-ish fish getting a golden dwarf eel would be pretty awesome because you have all that live rock. It is expensive though, around $200. A trio of anthias would be very nice, they are colorful and don't need a huge tank. Or a trio of dart fisb. Just some ideas!

I would suggest replacing the Klunzinger with a Halichoeres. They are much more suited for a reef tank, where only the larger ones will generally go after your CUC. There are tons to chose from too
