Hello, I was in a hurry today and changed my water (28g tank about 1/4 change). I buy saltwater from my LFS. I didn't check the salinity before filling and noticed the water looked "swirling " when I was done. I checked the salinity of the tank and the remaining water in the jug. Pretty sure the gave my RO instead of saltwater. So I quickly re drained the tank and mixed saltwater (I keep some salt around for adjustments if necessary luckily). Filled it back up and got it to the proper salinity. So it was a big shock putting in the RO and a big shock bringing it back up to salinity. lesson learned about checking water before pouring but any ideas on what to expect from the tank over the next few days?

I worry about killing bacteria and stuff the most where it won't handle the waste and cause a cycle type thing / crash. Corals are all tucked up and sad. Could be the disturbance as much as the shock. Worried about the crab, urchin, and shrimp too. The fish don't seem to care much at this point.

Anyone know what might happen over the next few days or anything else I can do besides being mad, sad, and feeling stupid?

I would expect no problems. Most things adjust to lowering salinity easier than getting too salty quickly.

Don't worry about it!! My salinity is always going up and down between .21-.27, never seen anything go wrong so you should be fine. If your wondering why so much of a swing, well due to water evaporation and then topping up with too much RO... [emoji16]

This is the thing I don't understand people say it can't be good for your tank. What could be happening to it??? Sorry I'm not having a go at anyone but I've seen so many threads people say oh that can't be good but what is expected that can't be good? nothing is wrong with my set up. It's like my tank temp is set to 22C (72F) And everything is fine so someone said the same thing oh that can't be good for your set up in Jan this year I was visiting the Red Sea in Egypt and the sea temp was same 22C. I've even done water testing a few days after noticing the swing and everything is fine. Once again sorry [emoji52] if it seem like I'm having a rant but I'm just saying [emoji16][emoji1360]another things is we have mixed reefs at home for instance we have live stock from the Red Sea then we will have something from Australia and the Caribbean there is a lot difference in live conditions from salt, water, temperatures, food but yet we seem to get them to adopt well to our home systems. Which only means they can adopt.
