Potentially stupid frustration with filer sock removal

I have been using draw string filter socks for years and recently bought a holder and filter socks with 4" rings for them to clean up the look of my sump.

My issue is removing the filter socks without having to push it under water to remove it from the holder. The issue is that my drain has to go pretty deep down into the sock so that it remains underwater and so to remove the sock I need to effectively push it down and under to get it from around the drain pipe.

I must be missing something here, right?

When I used the draw string ones all I had to do was loosen it off the drain pipe and keep the top of the sock away from the water surface

If your drain pipe is that long not sure what you can do really other than choking off the sock once off the pipe
