instead of buying salt for your driveway during snow day, why not just use tank water from water changes.

I don’t see a problem here and wonder who’s doing it.

Depends where you live and how cold
Salt water that’s not moving will still freeze .

I can’t imagine what smelly fish tank water would attract , but I don’t think I would want it on my driveway , or tracked into my house

I think that could possibly depend on the type of driveway. I know some salts can be corrosive to concrete. Without looking it up, there are certain salts that are "safer" for concrete driveways. Salt water from our tanks could potentially be pretty corrosive. Maybe someone else can chime in to agree or disagree with me :)

Also, what Rmckoy said.

My old tank water doesn’t smell that much if any.

I was thinking that too but pretty sure the salt we buy for that purpose are corrosive as well.

The freezing point of ocean salinity is 28.4F vs. 32F for fresh water. So really not much difference there. While it depends on the temperatures you’re dealing with, you could end up with a whole lot more ice.

We had a pretty cold night this week in Boston. I was doing a water change so I decided to see what would happen if I put a 5 gallon bucket of 35ppt outside. I had several inches of ice on top. It was sort of slushy, but still ice.
