What are your parameters? Some basic info on the tank? Could be an Alk swing.

Ph 8.0 to 8.2
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate is high at about 40 ppm I’m doing a water change tomorrow
Calcium is 420 ppm
Alk is 7

What is your phosphate level? 40 No3 is high but not insane high. Alk is a bit low, is it always at 7? I would recommend targeting like 8-9 dKH but if you're going to raise your dKH do it very slowly. How old is the tank? Rocks look like you're in the first few months.

I didn’t test for phosphate I will when I get home the tank is about 5 months but the some of the rocks are newer some were live rock and then I put some dry rock in it

Yeah 5 months is pretty early for SPS corals. Is it possible you had an alk swing?

I also have 2 emerald crabs could they be picking at it by chance?

Totally possible but when I've had issues with them they're always going after something fleshy like duncans or acans etc.
