Powder Blue may have fungus?

I have had a powder blue hybrid in QT for well over a month now. It was perfectly healthy until I went to work out if town for a week and my wife over fed the tank. I returned and saw uneaten food on the bottom and the powder had a small white patch. It has gotten larger on the side and is also on the tail. I did water changes and treated with Maracyn Plus but there has not been an improvement. It is swimming actively and has a huge appetite. What else can I try?

If there was uneaten food on the bottom, then water quality likely deteriorated, and dirty water = ideal conditions for a bacterial infection to set in. I suggest treating with this aggressive mix of meds in a QT: Furan-2, Seachem Kanaplex and Seachem MetroPlex (or Metro-MS).

Nope. This is my first powder blue tang in 19 years of saltwater fish keeping.

The Tang is still in qt. I was going to place it in the DT when I returned from work until this happened. I can get Furan-2 and Seachem Metroplex locally.

Found Furan-2 and Triple-Sulfa(sulfathiazole, sulfamethazine, sulfacetamide) in my supplies closet and started the recommended dosages in QT. I ordered Kanaplex and metrodinazole which should be here in 2 days.

I've never mixed nitrofurazone (i.e. Furan-2) with sulfa ... but it should be OK. You might wanna do a large WC/run carbon for 24 hrs before switching over to the Furan, Kanaplex, Metro combo. Just to be safe.

I cleaned out the QT tank completely along with 100% fresh water and am only dosing Furan 2 until the other items arrive tomorrow. Tang is still eating and extremely active. I will try to snap a picture tomorrow.

The tail and skin looks terrible. I did water changes the moment I noticed but after 2 weeks there was no improvement. The tail seems to have dropped off some of the white patch on day 2 of treating with Furan 2.

Yup, that's a pretty nasty bacterial infection. I think I also see ich - but for now just focus on clearing that infection, as a gram negative variant can kill within days. Furan-2, Kanaplex, Metro combo is your best bet.

Not sure how ich could have reinfected the fish since I had previously treated with cupramine for 4 weeks along with prazi for 2. The other meds arrive tomorrow so I will change 25% of the water and start the regime while finishing up 2 more dosages of Furan 2.

I see some white dots on the body in your second pic; however that may just be part of the Columnaris-looking infection. Let's clear up the infection and then reevaluate his overall condition.

Outstanding! But don't let up. Continue to treat for at least another 4-5 days. I've seen visible symptoms of an infection clear, only to come back if you stop using antibiotics immediately thereafter.

It's been 6 days with furan 2, 4 days with General Cure(metro/praxi), and 3 with Kanaplex. By at least another 4-5 days do you mean dose more than the instructions call for or leave it in the system?

In your situation, I would treat for 10 continuous days. Do WCs as the labels call for it.
