Powder blues dying

ICH is just like herpes literally that kills though. Some fish have it and dont ever show it no matter what. WHIle others are very prone to outbreaks and death. It is directly correlated with the amount of anxiety that the fish is expressing. Powder blue and many other tangs are very anxious fish by nature in the aquarium. they are used to having millions of gallons of water and then being transitioned to just a few feet this is incredibly stressful for them and why it takes a long time for them to adapt and most will die. During this time they are especially sensitive to other fish aggression this causing stress and expression of ICH virus which is generally latent in the fish to begin with but also often acquired directly from the harassing fish. honestly I wonder how well treating them with ativan or other anxiolytic during the transition period would would prevent ich expression and death.

If a Powder Blue Tang (or any other fish) is prophylactically treated for ich and then placed in an ich-free DT environment, ich will never be an issue for that fish. The fish may still get stressed, but that anxiety will not allow it's lowered immune system to succumb to ich. Because ich is not present in the DT to infect it. I am just using ich as an example. Proper QT prevents diseases from ever making their way into your DT, so even "stressed fish" have a better chance for survival because you can eliminate "death due to disease" from the equation. Of course, this still doesn't prevent an aggressive fish in your tank from killing the newcomer.
