Poor guy. He looks to have some sort of parasite issue. The bumps are likely stress related. He also has torn fins. Is he breathing rapidly or swimming into or around the powerheads?

He is hanging out in the top back corner trying to stay upright, we was eating a little

Has he been through any form of QT or treatment?

His buddy the blue is trying to get him to swim , looks like he got beat up

I recently remove half of the live rock could they be competing for night hide out pefectly fine last night

If the blue is rubbing into him it is more likely a sign of aggression.

Any signs of white stringy poo? Fast breathing?

Have you tested for ammonia? You could be having your tank cycle since you removed that much of your bio filter.

Powder blue and brown in the same qt is a recipe for disaster...
I'm glad you caught that. My mind when to a Hippo tang, I missed that it was a Powder Blue. That isn't likely to go well in any tank under 250g and even then it is risky.

Yup my first instinct is that the blue didn’t tolerate the powder brown. Two acanthurus this closely related and aggressive is a recipe for disaster.

Separate them in to different qt’s asap to save the fish, that’s pretty bad damage :/

I’d be curious to see how many have had this combo work and what size tank. I was tempted to try a PBT and Achilles in my 96x24x30 but after seeing how my PBT treated non Acanthurus tangs I chickened out. Thought about adding a Clown or Sohal to put the PBT in its place but then I’d have an even more aggressive Acanthurus wrecking shop.

I don't remember who had them, but I have seen them together in what I believe was a 400g system. It was a very mature system with coral cluttering sight lines. I'm curious how lucky they got or if it would be repeatable.

I keep them together but amongst several other tangs with several added together.

Best if you try three similar, than two. This in a 180.

You don't count! :p

Lol!

I agree though it’s definitely a gamble and not something to try if you don’t really know what you’re doing and have a plan B

Brew Yes, and that was a concern, I totally cleared out the sump and removed Over half of the live rock, I still have 1.5 gallons of Marine-pure spheres in the corner overflow, 30-lbs LR and a puka shell base, everything seems to be holding.
Beat me to it. He sure is one heck of a tang whisperer.
Thanks for all the help on this, It would seem I have made a nube fish mistake with the blue and brown tang selection. Its 2 weeks since I purchased these guys, and since day one they have been buddies or at least i thought
so, In fact it looked as if they would pair never one sign of aggression.
I have room in the clean sump and a hand full of cheato and red micro till he's good to go. I have a 80 cycling rock in the basement, going to have get off my ars now.

Acanthurus “friends” can suffer severe and abrupt “divorces”.

You have to be very familiar with tang behavior to really know what’s going on with these guys. Sometimes courting behavior is actually sizing up the opponent, for example.

Sounds like some people I know, I realized that I have more to do than just relocation and so much for the Achilles I wanted. Again thanks for the wake up
