Powder Brown Tang in a 75gal?

Just wondering if I could get a small (2") brown tang for my 75? I've seen a lot of people have the Yellow in their 75 or smaller tank, and the yellow gets 8" max. So since the BPT gets to the same max size, isn't it possible too?

Ultimately, you can do whatever you would like but I have a powder brown and a scopas (same family -as yellow) and the powder brown swims circles around it. It truly never stops swimming. I even look in my tank in the middles of the night and it is in there sleep swimming. I would recommend getting a bristletooth like a kole or a tomini if you want one in your 75. They are great fish and offer more utility than a powder brown.

Thank you. I've looked at the Bristletooth family but to be honest none of them has good colors (to me personally). The Kole looks good but only in pictures not in person....

Just got a kole for our 75g

Yellow will work and many will absolutely be against it but if you do when they get full grown you will need to move them to a bigger tank or have an aqua scape that allows a lot of big circles and 4' runs. So a cube 75 might be a little cramped.

I get it and to each their own..My kole is absolutely beautiful. If fed good they are purplish with stripes and bright yellow eyes.

You could also look into a fox face or a two barred rabbit fish like I have. Also a 75 gallon. I keep a yellow, a yellow eyed kole and my 2 barred.

I've had my eye on the foxface too. But aren't they even bigger (9") than the yellow tang?

The powder will out grow the 75, but as long as you plan on it you’ll be fine. If you go with it understand it will probably be more aggressive in a smaller tank. That’s my experience anyway.
My lemon isn’t any more active than my other tangs and disappears at lights out. If you want a bristle tooth and have the money, go with a white tail. I love mine. It’s deep red with the white tail. Not something you see very often as a lot of tangs are grey or dull colored. He/she(not assuming gender, or if it even identifies as a fish) hangs out with the coral beauty all the time.

They can but rabbifish are much different than tangs as far as activity, stress, agression and space concerns go.

Strongly advise you to stick with bristle tooth tangs, maybe zebrasoma but that's debatable.
What's not, is any species of acanthurus tangs longterm in a 75gal, a baby - juvie might be okay for a year tops in a 75, then it needs a much larger tank.

Even if you think you'll be upgrading or will be able to trade it in when it grows too big, it will be stressed the whole time regardless. Not only will it then be more prone to disease, it will adversely affect all of it's tank mates as well.

I have a Tomini in my 120 and it is a model citizen. And FWIW, it has colored up very nicely IMO.

Don’t tell anyone, but years ago I had a powder blue in an 80 gallon tank. He was a butthole because they are and the tank was small. You could end up having the brown for years before it outgrows your tank. I’ve got a hippo that I’ve had for +/- 10 years and it’s only 6”. Not saying they’re the same, but growth rates very in a captive systems. Dora(long story) was probably 4” when I got her and I’d guess she’s maxed out unless she hits a growth spurt in her 20’s. I see posts of max sizes, but don’t see them. My sailfin is supposed to get the size of a diner plate but it’s only the size of a large cup. It’s about the same age as Dora, maybe a year or two less. Just be mindful, responsible, and compassionate and enjoy your fish and tank.

My 2 barred is about 7 inches long and 2 or so inches thick, i keep him well fed and he is peaceful towards others if he gets any bigger or starts being a butthole I'll rehome him, but ive had him for 3 years no issues.
