So I have a powder brown tang in qt with two Lightning Maroons. The tang has recently developed red around his gills, still eats amd swims but it is looking skinnier, I'm thinking worms....what do you guys think?

This is the level the copper is at...coppersafe.

My guess is actually ammonia with red gilld although sometimes parasites can be at play-- do you have an ammonia badge by seachem in there to monitor ammonia?

I would do a very large water change and replenish copper level instantly.

Red gills do say ammonia, but the ammonia badge in the top left corner of the photo is yellow . . .

Hahahaha how did I miss that

Ok well now did it get to the green or blue recently? Acanthurus tangs are pretty sensitive to ammonia. Is this photo after a water change?

If not, in leaning towards an infection of some sort but I am no expert in infection realm. Do you have some kanaplex, furan 2, and metroplex on hand?

Gill damage tends to lead to faded color like that, be it from velvet, ammonia, or infection.

Humblefish. Should be here soon[emoji6] I like your thinking though. I know you have the experience with these tangs more than most others[emoji1360]
I definitely do but I'm not as knowledgeable with disease as Mel and humble. Velvet and ich I can ID pretty easily. I don't know that I've ever had flukes other than black ich. But then again virtually no one has the experience or knowledge of those two with most fish disease!

I have not done a water change on it since I set it up and added more than required bio spira

Anytime I see redness around the gills, I automatically think ammonia burn.

However, a bacterial infection or parasites/worms irritating the gills are other possible explanations. I've even seen copper too high cause that.

Would you think my copper is to high from the pic?

I would test with an ammonia test kit. Sometimes the badges seem to "stick" at a color.
Most ammonia kits give false positives with copper present
