Hello, i was wondering something, when dosing liquid of Alkalinity, it have a certain concentration per liter, like

1g in 1L = 0.5dkh

If in 1L i add 200gram of Alkinity powder instead of 100, how this concentration affect the chemistery of water. Of course i would have to dose less, just curious how concentration affect the water and dosing system.

Thank you for reading !

When you add twice the amount, you double the concentration and you would dose half the amount. This is a good approximation but not exact because the final solution will have a final volume a bit larger as a result of adding the powder. For purposes of alkalinity dosing, it won’t matter much because the error is small and you are measuring the alkalinity of the aquarium water and can add more solution if necessary.

What I don’t know is the impact of adding a stronger alkalinity solution would have in the water near the doser. Will it cause preciptation or transient high pH. If it the powder is bicarbonate, I would think not but it would be a different story for carbonate.
