I have 2 power heads in the tank but they seem to be awfully load is that normal or should they be quite

No they should not be too loud. What brand are they and how old?

Then they are probably warn out. You could try replacing some parts, but knowing the quality they produce you are probably better off getting something else.

What size tank are you running and what do you have in it?

75 I have nothing in it yet been running for abouth three week's. I have some fish for it bur there in my sons tank at the moment. Trigger clown damsel

Marineland Maxi-Jets are LOUD! That is what i started off with. Look into the Jebao wp25 wave makers, best thing ive done!

Could be that the impellars didnt' quite get going, unplug and plug back in a couple times to get them spinning correctly.

While I agree that un-plugging and plugging them back in my get them to catch better, my experience with these power heads is really bad. All I do with the one I still have is mix salt...

If you are using it as a power head and not a pump, then an upgrade to a single Jebao WP25 would be the most cost effective thing you could do to get both quiet and better reliability. The added control, and wave functions would be so far above and beyond what the the marine-land power heads are capable of it is not funny.
