What do you have for power outages?

I was going to get a generator but decided i'm going to build my own setup using 2 optima blue tops and 2 2000/4000 surge watt inverters.

I guess it boils down to how frequently you lose power and for how long. Up until Hurricane Sandy hit our town in New Jersey, if I were to lose power, it would be for minutes. Well Sandy knocked us out of power for a little more than seven days. Fortunately I had a generator that ran 24/7. It ran my entire tank, refrigerator, boiler, tv and a few lights. The best $300 I've ever spent. The saving just in the refrigerator alone was worth the generator. I actually still had it in the box and had to un-box and assemble the generator first. Now it sits in it's own shed with all the necessary additional equipment.

i got a little baby 2 stroke generator from harbor freight. it only produced 800watts and 900 peak. its enough to run my fish tank, tv, wifi and direct tv crap. there was even a little left over. im gonna get a big generator but i almost never lose power so i keep putting it off. i also have a 2k watt inverter and a huge deep cycle battery thati could use if need be.

I'm at the very end of my power grid. If anything happens anywhere between my house and the sub station which is miles and miles away I loose power.

And because I have this in my living room

i have this sitting 7 feet away at all times.

I have WAY too much time and money put into this tank to let a day of lost power destroy it.
It will run all my tanks and the heater or AC. As well as the tv etc.

I was looking at the honda 2000 as it can be doubled with 2 units together but man they are expensive!!

I love those honda's they are so quiet put out some power and don't use that much fuel the only bad thing is the price

You will regret not having a generator the first time you have an extended outage and you lose most or all of your tank. I did that. I have a generator that will power my house. With today's weather extremes, it is more like when it will happen than if.

Buy if you can afford at all. You can go small just for the tank.

I found a good deal on a 7,000k BlackMax with a Honda engine at Sam's.

Yeah just like today, there's no more snow or ice but I was just super windy as a fronts coming in. I live in Arkansas and we get really bad storms in the spring and bad ice storms in the winter.

So 8 months out of the year I was biting my nails. Now were coming into tornado season and lines can be down for a week if one goes by close. Which it has in the past. Not to mention trees going down on the lines when we get too much rain.
I have $4,000 in my tank cash and a retail value of over $6,500. I'm keeping this thing right here in the room.
Best piece of equipment I have bought for my three tanks and my lizard as well as my house.

I'm in fort smith AR and have lost power for a week before. Right now i have 2 750 watt inverters i use which i hook to my trucks batteries, but i need a portable unit on wheels that will power everything which is why i am going to just build one, 2x 2000/4000 surge inverters and 2 of the largest blue top optimas. It will still be way cheaper than buying 2 hondas and it will run a couple days easy and i can recharge it with my vehicle when needed for any extended power outages. I am using 2 inverters mainly if one goes out i have a second backup and worst case if they both go out i have the 2 750's which i can get by with and have before.
My main tank is 1800 watts total with everything running, so i can get it to 1100 easy and still be just fine with no interruptions in lighting.
