Power backup

Wondering that as well. I've got an old UPS that I wanted to use, but I heard that the batteries don't work that well with low powered pumps and heaters.

Right. But what if it's all plugged into a power strip that is connected the ups?

Living in upstate, rural NY, it seems like there is a power outage that lasts more than a couple days every decade. Therefore: generator.

Battery powered air pump that turns on when A/C loss is detected. 4000w propane generator in the garage too. I will have a DIY MP40 battery back up completed soon.

Ecotech battery backup for pumps and generator for longer outages.

Generac stand by generator. Automatically starts up when the power goes out. :-)

What are the priorities in terms of backing up the tank's systems? Flow, Filtration, Lighting? Lighting being the lowest priority.

Here's my power backup:

Saved my tank (and all the food in the refrigerator/freezer when we lost power for over seven days with Sandy. That little generator ran 24/7....easily paid for itself in this one use. I'll probably never use it again.

My tank is at work. We have four 50hp generators to keep our building up (mainly the computer system) in case of an outage. If the power goes out they can be on in about 10 minutes if needed.

I have a APC BR1500 ups pro with 10 outlets Everythimg runs threw it my power Gos out my back up kicks in I live in Florida and the nasty weather here I loose power a lot this keeps my sump going and my lights on a pice of mind for like 150.00 bucks

How long will it run with all gear running as normal? Do you power down non-essentials, either automatically or manually, in case of power outage?

Generac generator. Plugs in my garage 240v and cut breaker to outside line. Entire house back online. Tanks, tvs, lights, heat. fridge and deep freezer. Now lost food, entire system for tank...not just a powerhead runs. Lights, controller, skimmer, heaters etc. Less than $500.00 and my own extension cord from generator to the outlet in garage.

Lost power for almost two weeks years ago. Horrible crash following. Never again. While everyone is in the dark I'll be over here at home with no change other than topping off reserve fuel tank.

I just run the sump and power head on the back up it will go for about 25 30 min just enuff time to prepare for what ever or to get my butt home to fix the problem I to have a gas generator I have just in case it's gonna be a long time with no power
