Hi guys, I just been told there is going to be a power cut in my area next week which I am going away for a holiday. The power cut should be 6 hours and I would not worry about the temperature, the room temperature should be around 21C. Only thing I am worry about the is the dosing pump. I am not sure if coral still taking up as much element as they are when the light is on. Should I turn it down to a lower does when the power go back on or try to get the same daily does (got a read sea dosing pump should be able to control on my phone)? Anyone have any experience with that?

Do you have a backup power source for the return or flow pump. There needs to be movement in the tank. That’s what I’d be worried about.

If dosing is a concern- like I do, I will disconnect it until I can be present to watch the startup after power is resumed.

Unfortunately I don't but there is one time I forgot to turn my tank's pump (I did not have wave maker at that time) back on after feeding and found out the next morning. All the coral seems okay. However, I did not have torches or SPS in my tank when that happen. Would it be a big problem for them? I was thinking if they can survive in a 24 hours postage they should be okay with 6 hours no flow?

You don't need to worry about changes in nutrient uptake for a 6 hr dark period. You just need to make sure you maintain some sort of flow.

I would be more worried about the power heads turning back on with fish in them. If it truly is only 6 hours there is really not much else to worry about. If the dosing pump causes concern, just buy a cheap UPS for just the dosing pump. Even a basic 80€ one should run a dosing pump for days.

I would either move my trip or make sure somebody who I trust is over there at the time when the power is supposed to turn back on to make sure things are starting up as expected. I have power backup for my pumps which lasts around 48 hours but I would hate leaving things to chance anyway if I know that there is a scheduled outage. Wouldn’t worry about lights. Even the Caribbean has bad weather and it rains for hours sometimes ;) … worry about flow only. For ATO I would use one of those swimmer thingies and a large enough canister for the time
