I have a strange one. My 180 is on a dedicated new single 20 amp gfci outlet. All power for the tank is run from it. I use a DJ power strip at the tank to turn off power heads and return. The strange part is, only when I turn OFF those items (power head or return) the audio on my TV cuts out for a second. No lights in the room cause it, the lights nor video on the TV seem to be affected. The tank is on a wall 90 degrees from the wall with the TV, wires are not in the same vicinity since the circuit for the tank is on the back of the wall with the breaker box so a short run.

I also have a 90 on the other side of the room, DJ power strip feeding power heads and filter, no problem. Just from the 180.

I have ground probes in the tank and sump. tried taking them out, no change. Used an extension cord to test directly to that new circuit and it still occurs. Run to a different outlet, no problem.

Any ideas?

Best guess is that it is harmonics/chopped wave from arcing across the switch contacts. You can confirm this if it doesn't happen when you unplug the pumps, only when you flip the switch.

If it is the switch, I would consider this a defect and would contact the manufacturer of the switch. This will pit the contacts over time and create heat issues. Not to mention that the chopped wave you are introducing isn't good for the TV.

If the switch manufacturer claims it isn't an issue (and it is possible it isn't) then you might be able to fix it by plugging the TV into a high quality surge arrestor style power strip.

thanks Brew12, I'll give unplugging a try. The TV is plugged into a better quality ups/power filter for audio visual equip. Not saying it can't be failing, just that it is protected, supposedly anyway.

I'll see what happens when I just unplug it.
