Power head choices for mixing salt

I'm getting my first rodi set up and running soon and want to know what some of you would recommend for a power head that is fairly inexpensive but also has the durability to last a long time

I use a Hydor Koralia for my salt pump. It was inexpensive and runs well.

How big of a container are you mixing in? I picked up an inexpensive power head from petsmart and shes been going strong for 3 years

I like mag pumps. They are so inefficient that they heat the water while they mix it. For me it’s two birds with one stone.

Like crabs, I just picked up an aqueon pump from Petsmart. It just sits in the bottom of my Brute to mix, and pump back into the tank.

I have a 25 gallon storage tank for mixing and wanted to share a little tip. I use a cheap external pump plumbed into the tank with bulkheads to recirculate the water. The tip is I cut a piece of PVC long enough to reach top to bottom in the tank, capped the end, and drilled a series of 3/16" holes. I get a vortex of water with current top to bottom in the tank, instead of just from a single powerhead. It mixes quite a bit faster without settling at the bottom as much before it gets dissolved.

You're just mixing salt, any cheap pump will do

I like having something that is somewhat close to my return, that way I have a back up just in case, but other than that most anything will work.
If looking for long time reliable I'd grab an ac pump, seem to be a lot of used going cheap these days w/ so many moving towards dc pumps.
I've actually been seeing deals on eheims, used to be hard to even find one used not long ago

If your tank is not extremely large, I find it more convenient to go to the local pet store and have them fill up 5 gallon buckets with the saltwater already made and at a consistent salinity.

It's a 93 gallon true cube. I've been able to get away with that for a while with my nano. Not really impressed with my LFS water any how, they don't use rodi they use city water with dechlorinator

I like to use cheap jeabos.
Having a pump that attaches with a magnet to the sides of the barrel keeps the pump from spinning around in the barrel and damaging the cord.
Unfortunately jeabos have a poor track record. But when one stops working ( have 3 dead ones ) they are cheap enough to buy another.

We'll see if it works, but idea is to use it for mixing then use it to pump into the tank after it's mixed. They are also quite cheap.

I’d recommend one of the Marineland maxijets. I think you can get them from Petemart, and cheaper from Amazon.

Good enough pumps, and you can switch between propeller (more flow) and impeller (can pump water through a tube) configurations. Whereas the petsmart house brand only has an impeller option.

Be sure you get one with enough power for your desired use. I needed a 1200 to get an impeller strong enough to move water from the bucket 4 feet up into my aquarium.

I have used 800gph sun sun pumps from Amazon for the past couple of years, had one die, but at $8 a piece who cares? I use 2 in a 30 gallon brute.

Mag Pump or Power Head. Both will work. The thing you want to be careful with is the cord. If its 120v and you take it in and out a lot, the cord seal can be damaged to the point it lets water in. Nothing like a little shot of electricity to wake you up.
I have had Sun ones leak as well as more expensive Koralia's.
