Hey everyone I was looking at power heads and was wondering why the mp10 are like 235$ and the koralia evolution 1400 are only 50$. Need to buy some soon, and was wondering if there was anything good that was cheaper than the mp10. Thanks! :)

Difference is the build quality and the features. The MP10 has a controller that allows you to program the powerhead to do wave type activity. The Koralias are just on or off. Also, the Koralia are known to have issues with start/stop (I know this from personal experience, since all my tanks have Koralias in them.) The MP10 also has a "through-glass" configuration where the motor and electrical is actually outside the tank, and the propeller is magnetically connected through the glass. Very innovative design, really.

As far as "cheaper" than the MP10, just about every other manufacturer. The Jebao WP's are fairly new on the scene, controller based like the MP's and shaped and directable like the Tunze's. Getting differing opinions on quality and longevity, but at $69, you can buy a bunch for what one MP will cost you. Tunze has several models at the flow level of the MP10, they also make a controller. However, you'll end up at about the same price as the MP's when you buy the powerhead and the controller.

hey longnose .. IMO i would do a WP25 or WP40 .. im running 2 WP40s in my new tank .. had them in my 180 tall for almost a year total controllable just like the MPs just 2 times less the cost n they are about the same price as the koralia but you get the wavemaker control ..

Seriously go with the WP's. I have an MP10 and a WP40 and I can tell you I would of never bought the MP10 if I knew what these WP's could do.

Different technology, the MP is DC powered (variable speed or controllable) and has the motor external to the tank while the Evo is AC (constant speed) and is all internal. I don't think the build quality has anything to do with it. My two Wvo 1400 went over 2.5 Million starts and stops on a RKL switching evey 30 seconds without a hitch. I changed over to thw Jebao WP series a couple months ago and am extremely pleased. They are more comparable to the Evo as far as being inetrnal but they are DC powered and come with their own controllers like the MP. AC controllers turn a pump on and off, DC controllers can vary the speed for more random flows and usually quieter tahn on and off.

I tried a WP-40 in a 5 foot 100G reef and it was too much so went with two WP-25s. Besides being powerful the 40's are big physically, much bigger than an Evo 1400/1500 and looked like heck in the 100.

I have a single WP25 in a 40 gallon bow-front tank and it is almost too much. If I had it to do again I would have gotten the WP10, but it was not out at the time.
So what size tank do you have?

Here is a photo of a WP-40, Evo 1400/1500, WP-25 and Nano 240/425 for size comparisons. The 25 isn't much bigger than the nano but puts out about twice what the much larger Evo 1500 does.

i think hes wanting to do a 60 gallon cube .. i would go with the WP40 so you dont have any dead spots ..

The 40 will stick out like a sore thumb in a 60G, they are about the size of a softball.

I really like the two WP-25's in my 100G. Between those and the Oceans Motions Squirt two way on my WaterBlaster HY-5000 return pump I have all kinds of random currents.

2 25s would be alot of flow .. i would do the 1 WP40 IMO .. n you can put the power head on the back wall by the over flow box .. dont think it would stick out like a sore thumb

Before buying one find some you can look at. A 60 cube is not that big so imagine a black softball stuck on the back, they are offensive. Thats why I placed them on a mat with 1" squares on it for the photo, its about 5" across with the bracket and the ball is about 4" by itself, very big. Find some to look at and you be the judge but you will also find if you have sand substrate it will blow like crazy with the 40, my tank is 5 feet long and it moved it against the far glass on the opposite side. I would still opt for the two 25's which is what I did. I originally bought the 25 during the first group buy for $42 shipped to try in my 16G bowfront but quickly found it was more suited for the 100G. Now that the WP-10 is out I am getting one of them to replace the Nano 425 and Koralia K-1 in the nano. I like lots of flow but don't need huge eyesores to distract me.
