Planning on a new 48x30x24 reef. It will be built into the wall and front and side will be fully exposed. Debating on the overflow, returns, and the power heads.

Right now planning on a Apex return pump and the Apex WAV powerheads. To keep the outside of the tank clean looking I want to put the overflow pipes in the back corner and the return at the opposite end. Also want to put the powerheads on the end so they are not seen.

This will have the overflows on the same end as the power heads. since the powerheads will be pushing the surface water away from the overflow will this cause any issues or am i just over thinking it?

Or is there some better way to place the over flow or the powerheads?

thanks!

What about putting the powerheads on the back wall facing forward or even at a little bit of an angle out. I just did something similar to my tank with my MP10's to avoid any pumps and equipment on the sides of the tank. Looking forward to your build :)

I had thought of that. you don't have any issues with the power heads pushing surface debris away from the overflow?

Nope :) The MP10's break the surface tension enough that it prevents anything from forming on the waters surface, and then it gets sucked into the overflow and down to the sump where it's filtered out :)
