Hello folks I’m wondering what would you guys do in my situation here .. I’m new to this so I have my 90 gallon thank 48x24x18 .... I have one mp40 in there right now I’m wondering if I should add another power head in the other side tank is been running for 3 weeks already

The tank is only 3 weeks old? Was it used? It looks mature.

Another on opposite end would be ideal or a gyre unit would also work

Following along. I have the same tank with a similar rock layout. Right now, I run two Hydor Koralia 3rd Gen (2450 GPH) power heads, one on each side of the tank, and have them alternate every 15 minutes. I get pretty decent flow across the tank, and the alternating flow does a good job of keeping stuff from settling in stagnant areas. I don't seem to get a real strong gyre effect, but you may have better luck with the MP40 as I believe they have a more focused directional flow. Right now, I have to direct the power head a bit towards coral, instead of relying on the gyre flow, to get good flow around corals on the far sides of the tank.

I'm going to experiment with moving both power heads to the same side and have them running at the same time to see if I can improve the flow, . I also just put a Maxspect XF350 gyre on my wish list if my experiment doesn't work.

more flow is better, especially with mp40's, you can turn them down a bit if you have too muck flow but if you are going to have SPS you will need more flow,

looking good so far and welcome

I would get another mp40 or whatever you want on the opposite side. I have a 48” tank and I use 2 mp40s at high flow mounted on the back wall. My SPS and other corals are loving it.

Thanks I was thinking of getting maybe another power head maybe a mp10 or a hydor

May I make a suggestion? As someone that keeps ALOT of rock weight in his tank. I feel that you could do well with some negative space.. Rescape and see if you can put some space in between rocks. Fish like to go through little caves AND it'll give you more surface access for bacteria to help
