Hello

Looking at a reefer 250

Going to be getting an Apex also

If i buy the Apex power heads can the controller doing anything special other then turn it off and on?
Can it change the speed of the power heads?

If i didn't get the Neptune ones and got a cheaper model or even like an ecotech one what features would i loose?

Also,

If i got a single apex power head would that be enough for a mixed reef tank in a reefer 250 or do i need to buy a pair of them?

Thanks for the thoughts

Well, thank the fish gods for youtube. Easier answer found on youtube for this.

from both BRS and Marine Depot

I am using the Neptune WAVs on my 72" tank and they work well and have many different flow options. You could certainly use them on a Reefer 250 but they would be overkill. I would recommend getting something less powerful and saving a little money unless you plan to get a larger tank in the near future. Another thing to consider is that the WAVs will not work unless your Apex is working. An issue with the Apex means you have two useless powerheads.

I was worried about that but I wanted the functionality of the apex and apex system

if I get something other then the WAV I will only get on off control :(

There are other powerheads you can control with Apex. I know Vortechs and Tunzes can be controlled through Apex. You will need to look into any cables or adapters that may be require though.

Does the wifi connection for AI lights they aded to the apex include the ai nero 5? As this is another option if the case.

I run a MP40WQD on the left side and 2 MP10WQD’s on the back. I run them variable programs but not more than 50% in my Reefer 250

If you decide 10’s be careful. Mine were having issues on the sides due to glass thickness.

Also run a Sicce 4.0 for return. No issues with to much flow in a mixed reef torches, euphillia, JB’s, interstellars, chalices, zoas, montis, sticks

thats a ton of flow! wow any pics of your tank?

I’m running duel AI Nero 5’s and love them. I’m not running an apex but the ai program is super easy to use and program. Also my tank is a Reefer 250

they do like nice

I am not really happy with the cost

Im an engineer and I cant tell you how rediculous the prices in this hobby are. It probably cost these guys $5 to make a $300 power head

I am having a really hard time wanting to drop $600 on power heads that I know I could build in my garage if I were patient enough

Those nero 5 do look interesting though

I run 2 MP40s with a reefer 250 and apex.

Look at the maxspect grye. IMO they are a much petter powered as far as performance, footprint, and placement ability.

I have two gyre 1ks in my reefer 250. They are too strong where they are at. One is at 10% and the other is at 20% and still have issues with sand being blown around. If you put one on the side of the tank it should be plenty.

I run the same. You could get away with 1 MP40 for now. But I run 2 MP40s at around 20% power. I didn't get the MP10s due to the glass thickness and I won't need to upgrade if I go bigger.
