Power heads? (I know beating a dead horse)

I'm getting ready to run this and I think it's the best deal out there with some of the best powerheads, Reef Octopus Octo Pulse 2 or 4. I just bought the hydros WaveEngine ($299) to run them. The Hydros allows full controllability through wifi. With the hydros, you do not have to buy the controller that comes with the powerheads, which is a considerable savings.

Octo Pulse 4 with controller $279. Without controller $179. Octo Pulse 2 with controller $229. Octo Pulse 2 without controller $149.

I would get the Octo 4's at $179 with the Hydros.

edit: The only place i have found at this point that has the Octo Pulse without controller is PremiumAquatics.com They just came out last week. GL

Awesome info. Thank you!

I just bought a Jebao SCP 90 for my 90 gallon build, and am really impressed with it for the price point. Several modes and is almost too powerful for a 4ft tank.

No idea on longevity as it's been running for 2 days, but for $86 it's worth finding out.
That’s very tempting

I don't know if it helps, but on about 3/4 power here's the surface movement I'm getting (ignore the odd reflection on the left half of the photo):

I was sold on this half way into the video!

I was too. This is a great system. To me the best system on the market... I'll have 2 RO Octo Pulse 2s and a Varios4 return pump connected to the waveengine... to start.

Have you ran the Octo Pulse before?

Yes, I have 1 Octo Pulse 2. I'm adding a second one with my new 75G build. Along with a Varios4 return pump. The hydros will allow me to run all 3 of these devices without their controllers and power bricks.--and who couldn't like that? The pump itself has a small profile and really pushes the water in absolute silence. Also with the hydros, you'll receive an email alert if one of the devices attached to it have an issue. Return pump stops working, you are alerted. And so many other options.

i use the current orbit marine power heads 2100 gph on my 80 shallow they have a controller you can normally get it all together super simple easy to clean and maintain and havnt had any issues with it at all and pretty cheap on amazon for 255$ just googling it out the door.

I really think this is the way I’ll go. Probably do a couple Pulse 4’s.

Thank you everyone for all the input!

Eh. I’ve never been bothered by cleaning them. Mp10’s and 40’s are just as hard to clean imho
I turn my gyre's off, drop one in a 5 gal bucket of citric acid and water solution, turn them back on. The one in the bucket I let run for about 20 minutes, turn them off, rinse and brush it with clean water and put it back in the tank. My XF230s have been in continuous service since Nov. 2018. Never disassembled. Easy peasey.

The wave engine looks very cool. I have been running 2 Jebao PP-8 powerheads for nearly 2 years. Zero complaints with them. Like many people say they are great for the money.

I just got the Octopulse 2, this thing really moves some water and I have it on the lowest setting. I like how you can adjust it to different angles.

My tunze is bulletproof and I’m still impressed with my Nero 5, as it pushes an incredible amount of water, it’s controllable and unlike my gyre, no maintenance or noise at all. If I were to do it all over, I would prob give the octo pulse a better look.

I'm extremely happy with my Tunze equipment! That said, I did start with Jebao because of the low cost of entry. When I could justify upgrading to Tunze, I did it asap. Performance is better and they last a LOT longer. That would be my advise is to buy whatever you can afford and satisfy your flow requirements. Upgrade when possible (if you desire).

72 inch tank will need some serious pumps to get the flow going. :) A couple of Tunze stream 3 will do a number on a tank that size.
There is also Interzoo coming19 - 22 May 2020. At that time all the coming show their new equipment coming this year.

Alright everyone,

I’m finishing up acquiring everything for my 125g setup that I will be setting up soon and I can not for the life of me figure out what to do for powerheads. It won’t be 100% SPS but I do plan on having a good bit of SPS coral. I love the idea of wireless but is it really worth it? I would like some controllability but I don’t run an apex so anything that’s best with that is a no-go.Is there anything comparable to an MP40 that’s a better price point? I know it won’t be wireless but it’s not the end of the world. Throw all of your input at me! What are you all using???
I was asking the same question a week or so ago, and decided on Tunze 6055.
