power heads on the sides or on the back

hi guys im having trouble finding info on power heads mounted on the back of the tank and how the flow works or circulates on a tank about 4feet wide and only 2 feet front to back is it possible to have a good flow. Can i create a good flow for a lps with some little sps tank with 2 ai nero 3s on the back or should i keep them on the sides of the tank for best results?
