Setting up a 125 and opinions/help on choosing power heads. I think 2 MP40s or 2 gyres probably 350s. I think I like the idea and price of the gyres over the vortechs but they have Terrible reviews both controlling and longevity. If I have two jebao pumps on my 40 and they are pretty good considering price and have been very reliable for the last 2 years. Definately clean them more than other pumps probably but eh good practice. Got great advice on a return pump (so far) so what is everyone running and how do you like them?

Eco tech are so expensive but they have been the pumps that have outlasted all my other pumps (excluding the return from them). My jebao all die before 1.5 years because I use random programming on them (stop/start and intensity changes are rough on them). If and when I need to replace my MP40’s I’ll likely do the same. I do have a gyre on my frag system and it has Helen up fairly well so far. I do not get the random variation I like, but it has performed well other than that.

6 MP40’s on my 145g. Love them now that I finally figured out how to control them with the Apex. They don’t look bad in the tank, and they are quiet.

UMM yea I won't be doing 6 lol. I also don't have an apex. But I bet you get some crazy random flow

I am not even sure what one is set to what! I just have them ramp up/down from 15-80% and alternate from constant, reefcrest, lagoon and pulse, all independently at different times.

Actually only 5 have the wifi chip, so one runs at 60% constant.

Here is my current settings I guess (lights still ramping up)

I hated Apex until it was finally setup and working properly for me!!

If I'm reading the site correctly it looks like 2 MP40 or 4 MP10's would be best. So basically 2 MP40

2 MP40s will be plenty. I have 2 on a 120g and have to keep them at about 50% or less to keep from blasting everything in the tank. Up until recently I had 2 MP10s on same tank and they ran close tp 80% to keep things happy/clean. The MP40s are a better choice.

I have a 120 gal tank and I run 1 mp10 and 1 mp40 on one side and a gyre 350 of the other. I run the mp’s at about 40 percent reef crest mode and the gyre between 10 to 30 percent variable speed.

My 120 has 2 tunze 6095's and 2 jebao ow-25's. Wanted to see how long the jebao's last. Have 2 more 6095's as backup.
The tunze run on alternating pulse mode at 10 second intervals.
Jebao's run the same at around 20 second intervals. Around 5000gph at any given time all at 100%.

Any issues with the gyre and do you like the flow? is cleaning it a pain.

I use 2 current elflux 2100s on a 6ft 125 and I’m more then happy with them. Good price to

I only installed it a few weeks ago, so no info on cleaning yet, as far as flow goes, their is nothing in its league. I love my EcoTech pumps and will never talk bad about them, but they move water in a direction manner, the gyre moves the whole tank, and the flow is gentle when compared to a standard power head. I paired the gyre and the mp’s because they both have qualities I want in water movement. As far as cleaning goes, I will have to say the Ecotech’s will be easier because all I have to do is swap the wet sides and put the dirty wet side in a bucket of citric acid.

I've had my Gyre for about...6 months now? And haven't had a problem at all. Has been very reliable. And has amazing flow.

Spend the money ,, get the MP40's and forget about them ,, I am all about reliability and ease of maintenance ,, you can see when they need cleaned ,, pop them off ,, have them both cleaned in 15 min ,,, done ,,you won't have to be asking ,, any issues with the gyre and do you like the flow? is cleaning it a pain.

I have 4 MP40's on my 120 gallon. If you get the Reeflink they can be controlled on your computer which makes it really easy to change the settings.
