Thinking of upgrading my power heads, i'm kinda hitting a brick wall on this and figured why not post up and see if I can make my decision easier. Thinking of going with 2 mp40's or 2 tunze 6105's I really like my tunze's that I have now but I really like the features that come with the vortexes. Why is it on the vortexes that the wet side goes bad, and maybe someone can chime in on how often do they go bad or maybe its just a hit or miss type thing. As far as the tunze's go I would have to buy a controller to achieve the same thing.

The Vortech's sometimes have issues with wetsides or drysides going bad. No real explanation. It happens - Tunze's can lock up at times as well. Both Roger at Tunze and the guys at EcoTech are great with customer service. I have had around 8 Vortech's at different times and have never had an issue with anything going bad. But you never know. Good thing for us guys in VA is that they are located in PA and everything gets to us with 1-day shipping.

I personally prefer the Vortech's and would never go back. That's nothing against Tunze (they are great pumps as well). I prefer the clean look with no extra wires in the tank. And the undertow can't be beat. You can find some great deals on used ones here on the Selling Forum. Hope that helps a bit. : )

Is there any heat issues on the dry side I should worry about my tank is acrylic that is also a concern I have.

The drysides can get a little warm depending on what program you are running them on. But nothing to worry about with acrylic. I have had them on acrylic tanks and many others have (and still do) here. No issues at all. : )

I have 2 mp40w es's and have had them running for close to 9 months. I have had two wetsides break on me. However to Ecotech's defense their customer service is amazing. The first one that broke they sent me two new wetsides. I suppose for a backup and a good gesture. So when my second one broke about 3 months later I had a back up, while the new one was being sent to me. I have had no issues for a few months now. I love my Ecotech's and even though I have had a couple issues I wouldn't trade them for anything else at the moment. Have heard good things about Tunze as well. I just have no experience with them. I'm sure either way you go you'll be really happy. Good luck

No experience with Tunze 6105's, but I also have two mp40 es. They are awesome! I've had them for about 6 months and couldn't be any happier. In my opinion, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Well looks like i'm going with the 2 mp40's ordered them last night should be here in a few days. Hope that won't be too much flow for a 120 but guess we will find out.

It will be great flow for the 120g. You can adjust the speed to whatever you want. And then ramp them up as the tank matures. Give me a shout if you have any issues once they come in. You will love them!

I have 2 MP40 W ES's and 1 MP10 W ES on my 120 gallon with a mag 18 return pump (hopefully going to be upgraded due to energy consumption and noise) but I have a ton of flow and can keep anything in regards to flow requirements.

Vortech's are AMAZING!
