Hello! So i am finally looking to get a ups so my apex can alert me power is out and maybe run my powerheads (jabao pp8s) until i can get my generator running. Powerheads are 23 watts each full speed but i run at less than half. Any ideas for best ups? And how to i go about hooking everything up? I know i need one for my router and modem as well but im not sure how to go about it with the apex jr. What is this 12v ac adapter i keep reading about? Please help

The apex cannot run powerheads or any outlets off a backup battery.

What size is your tank? Are your power heads AC or DC powered? How long do you figure to keep them on battery backup?

I’m running Tunze Nanostream 6095 (12v DC controllable power head) x 2 on 90 gal mixed reef. I have one of them hooked up to an IceCap backup battery that will last about 24 -36 hours on the setting I have, according to manufacturer specs. If you’re power heads are ac, you’ll need a different solution.

A chat with BRS or other retailer should let you know if you’re setup is compatible.

Its a red sea reefer 170 so 43 gallons total, i just need apex to run long enough to send me an alwet power ks out, thats the most important. Not sure if they are ac or dc, will check but the apex is the main goal of putting on ups just to get that alert as i have a generator

They are dc pumps

You do know of the heartbeat feature in the apex?

Basically it will do what you want with a small delay. If apex every looses communication with fusion, heartbeat will send you an email saying that they have lost connection.

Yes i do and i have that enabled but i think that only tells you after 30 min of no communication and thats a long time Especially if im not home

Anyone able to verify the time heartbeat takes to notify? If its under 15 min then thats good bur anything over that gets iffy for me if im out to get home, get generator going etc

It depends on your WiFi.
If you have an unstable connection, it wont work. I’m pretty sure its 15 minutes.

You would also have to put your router and or/wifi access point an battery backup.
no way for his unit to send any alerts without internet.

He will if he does not use heartbeat or he wont get any alerts.
He needs internet for any alerts from the unit.
I am just not sure how the Apex will know the power is out on a ups.
No.
Heartbeat works by measuring the time between when the apex lost connection to the internet, and subsequently, your phone/computer. Correct me if I’m wrong

You do not for heart beat I am guessing.

I am guessing it pings the unit every so often. If it get no response it alert you. This does not mean your power is out though.

The one issue with heartbeat is it will also send notifications if the internet is out, wifi is out if your is hooked up with WiFi, not necessarily the power.
Anytime it cant communicate with the unit for some reason. This may be more desirable for some.

Not A Apex expert but I am not sure How or if the Apex can actually monitor power and send a alert other than heartbeat. . I think GHL just added something.

Does snyone know how long between loss of connection for heartbeat and sending of alert? My apex is hooked into a wifi extender/bridge and is very stable. So would i need to put wifi extender on ups and apex in ond as well? Im just not very tech savvy
