Just had a tree fall and rip down power lines. Lost all power. Waiting on city to come out, so I'm sure it'll be an all day thing. I do not have a generator, so my question is how do I keep my tank from going south? Will manually stiring the surface be sufficient enough to give the tank enough o2? How often? If not, what are some other Suggestions???
It's a 90 gallon tank that is pretty decently stocked.

You'll need a battery back up and an air pump hooked up to an airstone.

Beyond that a generator would be a great asset to have right now. If you have a buddy with one borrow it. If not I'd immediately try to rent one. Don't wait do it now!!

Stirring the surface will not be sufficient... You need to make some quick decisions. A decently stocked tank can go south in 4 hours or even less.

It might be helpful to let folks know the area you live in. If you're in the central NJ area, I have a generator you may use.
 
If you have a DC inverter, pull the battery out of your car and hook the inverter up to a pump to circulate water. That will buy you some time to find other options. If you have a newer car with an inverter already installed in it, start the car and run an extension cord from the car to a pump to circulate water.

City just showed up. Looks like it didn't rip anything off of house so I shouldn't need an electrician to come out, fingers crossed. As long as that stays true, should be up and good within an hour. How much damage will occur within an hour?

some,butt was stated before and you use an extension cord to plug a power head into a neighbors power?

I would try to get something going now and not depend on the city worker's estimate. If the transformer was damaged and requires replacement, it could take quite a bit longer than an hour.

Can you run to a local tackle shop or sporting goods store to get a battery-operated aerator pump?
 
Things can definitely go south quick like people are saying, but I lost power for 2.5 days and it was in the winter so I stirred my water by hands once every hour during daylight hours and got blankets and wrapped the tank to keep the heat in. I had to get karosine heaters to heat my house because I live way out in the country. I tried keeping my house at 72 so that my tank would never get below 72 also. Thank goodness I didn't loose one thing. I had 3 clams, sps's, lps's and zoas at the time. I did only had 2 clowns a a few gobys as far as fish goes.

Good luck and its defintaly a scary situation.
