I’m out of town until Sunday night and my wife called me yesterday around 7:00pm telling me that we don’t have electricity since around 6:00pm and my back up battery is running out of power. At 9:00pm the battery died. I am monitoring when will the power be back and as of earlier it is projected to be by 5pm this afternoon. According to my wife (aka “The Boss”) all of my clownfish in my anemone tank/ clownfish harem are not eating and already staying on top of the water line. So far the 120 gallon is still fine even the purple tang in the hospital tank still ok. I am getting worried because the last time we have power outage it wiped out my fish except for my breeding pair in my main tank. I’ve already checked the stores near our place for battery run air pump but there’s none.
At the moment I am just waiting for whatever will happen to the fish.
Sorry for the rant!

When this happened to me I rented a generator at Home Depot it was relatively inexpensive, gas-powered and ran everything that I needed for 2 days until power came back. I've since purchased one to have for emergencies...

I am out of town now and my wife is not efficient doing some electrical thing. Generator is out of question because we live in an apartment and we are in California (so you have an idea how most people are here).

Do you have natural gas? Can heat water and float bottles. Use a big kitchen spoon to stir water at surface of tank?

Let the tank cool off. Lower O2 demand at lower temperatures . Oxygen and surface breathing are the first concern. And no feeding until the power comes back.

My wife said she’s going to home depot and lowes to look for any battery she could use. She said my solon, exquisite and another fish died already.

Tell her to google bait and tackle store and go in and ask for some battery powered livewell aerators. I'm sure there are dozens in your area. The oxygen level is what will kill everything first.

One thing that you can try is take a 2 quart pitcher and fill and dump the water in an d out of the tank several times - like very 30 minutes - to oxygenate the water and provide some flow its a hassle - but for a couple hours it can be done - I did it for 4 hours one night - hope it all works - after this - we bought a generator.

Thank you guys for the support! Wife went to camping world hoping to get something, but the guy at the Camping World told her to go to Walmart and asks for car battery and inverter. Surprisingly my wife took care of everything and the 120gal and 29gal cube have been running since 1:00pm. Three losses and hopefully that’s all. Still waiting for the power to return, it’s almost 24 hours now.
PG&E sucks!
