I have a question about power outages. I’m in the process of trying to figure out a battery backup system for my 90mgallon tank an 40 gallon sump. I can pick up an icecap battery that will power my maxspect xf230s for 15 hours or so which should be more than enough time to get someone here and get the generator started. I really want to figure out a way to use a marine battery instead and tie in my jebao dc12000 return pump, reactor and maxspect gyres. I’m still trying to work out exactly how to go about doing that. Anyway, if I end up just powering my 2 maxspects in the display how long can my sump, water go before it goes bad? I have a refugium with chaeto, skimmer, and a BRS dual reactor that typically only runs carbon. I’m worried about the reactor water and possibly the sump water going anoxic if left for hours without power. Is this something I need to worry about?

I can’t answer your question about how long until th water goes bad. Days if I were just guessing. Harbor Freight sells a tailgater generator for under $100 with a coupon. Might be cheap insurance to have on hand. It is a 2 cycle engine.

Thanks, I have a generator. I’m asking because there will be times when the generator won’t get started for a few hours or more.

Things won't go anoxic in just a few hours. More like a day or two.

Generators are great to have! I just have my back-up battery to my powerheads. Pretty low watts and will keep the water moving until I can get something done.
