We had our first power outage since purchasing my Inverter Generator at 1:30 am this morning. I'm not sure if mentioning brands is allowed (mods edit if necessary) but I bought the Predator 3500 when it was on sale for 550.00 at Harbor Freight. It is frequently compared to the Honda Inverter Generators. I rolled it outside, pulled the cord once and it fired right up. (has a push button starter but it has been a while since i test ran it and the battery was dead) I ran the power cable into the tank room, unplugged the Power bars from the wall sockets and plugged them into the power cable. It was a great feeling to see the pumps power back up and see my GHL P4 wake up. The power was only out for 4 hours, but, the tank had already dropped one degree when I put it on the generator. I think it paid for itself the first time out. We were cold, but the fish and coral were great!

I "sold" the wife on a full house Generac before we put our tank in.
starts up 15 seconds after the power goes out.
only "auto" I have on the tank besides the lights on/off.

If you've got a lot of sunk cost in your tank, a generator is required equipment IMO. I bought a standby a couple of years ago. Told the kids it was for them ….. but it's really for the fish.
