Power usage, holy crap!

Have you thought about putting out the money upfront for a battery backup powerwall system? Not only would you be covered when the power goes out but the main reason of these battery systems are for time of day pricing. For example, you charge your batteries on off-peak hours and discharge during peak hour prices. It pays for the cost of them in a few years then you are really saving.

I'm not a Tesla salesman but I install these systems everydays and see how hopeful they are especially for this type of situation. Here is CO...I only pay 0.10 p/KWhr alllll day and night. It's cheap and these systems are not for the savings but rather the outage.

Hope that helps. PM is you have any questions.
At an average cost of $10k for the powerwall that is over 10 years of electric at $77 per month for the tank.

When you have time of day pricing it really is dependent on when you run your lights. I think most reefers love to start them later in the day and run into the night though so you'll get hit harder. You'll pay both prices for the hours your lights are on. With a powerwall you will only be paying off peak hours. So along with the bill you have to subtract what you save in difference from not paying on-peak too. OP-Take your total usage times your off-peak price - the difference of the bill. Then you can figure out the years for payback on the system.

I always felt guilty using so much power, not just the tank, but several computers and lots of other use. Got married and it more than doubled - I still don't know how that is possible. But I divorced and now it is back down. After a few years I realized the tank is not as bad as I thought.

Then add a minimum of 13% to allow for efficiency loss.

"You caused a fire, so everyone can sue you"
"But we applied for permits to clear brush around our transmission lines and were denied by you"
"We don't care. The People have spoken. They want free stuff again".

currently i pay .41 per kwh. the issue is california, not the USA :)

we have something called tiered pricing. my wife and i have 4 kids, so were always in tier 3 :(
We were always in tier 3. We switched over to a time of use plan. Saved about $100 month. The drawback is tank lights are off at 4pm.
Cheers! Mark

This is what I get from the electric company. I think they are trying to guilt me into using less electricity. Over 20 years of receiving these reports hasn’t changed my habits yet. Maybe next month I’ll get better about using less....

WOW!! I have 9 tanks running and only use 1040kh

Ouch. You can't knock things you don't understand. Sometimes letting ego go is better. Tell me more about your efficiently loss. Please school me.
There is plenty of information regarding the efficiency of the powerwalls online. School yourself. Cheers.

Within the last decade, I replaced my windows and doors and re-insulated the attic and walls in every room we disturbed remodeling. Electric bill was nearly halved. Reef tank put it it almost back to where it was.

I like Brads solution. Divorce your wife but keep the tank! Guess I got lucky, being footing my wife’s carbon footprint for thirty seven years now.

This is interesting. My power report shows me using on average 2.5-3x more energy than my neighbors.
