Hey Guys and Girls;

I am sorry if I have managed to post this in the wrong forum; I couldn't work out where it should belong. I think Discussion because I am looking for feedback and other suggestions.

On to the post then:
Last week we had a power out; It was only short maybe 1 hour. I had no losses and honestly wouldn't have known if it weren't for my wife being scared of the dark.
As a result I began looking into a way to run my fish tank off a UPS, This seems to be reasonably expensive considering for the same price I could buy a 120Ah Battery and a 500W pure sine inverter.
But even that feels like I am adding extra steps to a reasonably simple problem; I used to sell solar systems and batteries to caravan owners, My biggest suggestion for them was to never need an inverter as they are a massive power drain.
I have now decided that I am going to convert my reeftank over to 12v. I can run a battery charger that supplies more current then the tank will use and run the tank off the battery permanently.
My only issue is that 12Vdc tank equipment seems to be none existent. The tank I have currently is only 17 gallons.
My tanks current equipment is:
-50 w Heater -240v
-twin fan -12v
-Temp controller (inkbird itc-308) -240v
- HOB filter (nameless) -240v
- Powerhead (265 gph) -240v
- aqua beauty 35w -12v
- pump to feed my modified phos reactor. -240v

I have a few ideas on replacement equipment already.
My heater may be replaced by a stick on silicone heater pad as linked https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/silicone-heater-mats/0245506/
I am not sure if this has been tried previously my main concern being that the pad is designed to heat to 300°c and if it runs away it may either cook the tank or smash it.
I will be using an arduino to control the heat pad and fans similar to the inkbird but I'll be using multiple temp inputs to catch out the issue above.

Now to the hard part, I can't find 12Vdc powerheads, I can find plenty of little pumps but no powerhead.
If anyone has any input or previous experience please let me know. TIA
 
All of the controllable powerheads run DC out to the motor, I can say that the innovative marine powerheads run 24v DC into the control box (external power supply). I'm sure a lot of the other ones do the same. Maybe a pair of 12v batteries in series is your solution.
