looking at either the ecotech mp40qd or the maxspect gyre 150 it will be on a 150 gal mixed reef mostly lps and softies tho

what would you go with or what are your experience with them

I'm no expert because I don't own either of these , but I've done some light research as im also in the market for a new power head, and one thing I noticed is that I see tons of people trying to sell their gyre, from Craigslist to classifieds on multiple forums, seems like people can't get rid of them fast enough, that's gotta say something.

I have the gyre xf150 on my 90 gallon and i love it! I really like the linear flow. It keeps the water surface disturbed, no dead spots, keeps areas behind rock work clean. Only downside is the gyre is less controllable then the vortechs, you only get a constant, pulse, and gyre mode. If you have an apex, theyre coming out with ability to connectthe gyre to the APEX and this adds a lot more control. The vortechs are awesome too, and have great features but when comparing price at $300 for the Xf150 and $350 for the MP40, they gyre destroys the vortechs with how much power/flow you get get for the price. IME the xf150 is way stronger and more powerful then the vortechs but has less control/features.
It kind of just comes to preference and which one you like the look of better because they are both top of the line products and you would more then likely be happy with either one

I bought the gyre when it came out. I have also bought a new mp40 QD and I upgraded two old mp40s to the QD. Still happy with the gyre and I would pick the gyre over ecotech if I had to pick one personally, but both of them have a place on my tank.

I have 2x MP10 running in my 38g tank at 90%. I feel like there are still some dead spots especially behind the rock work. I will adding a gyre xf130 to help with the dead spots.

Yeah I agree with all of you I here great things about the gyre and bad, but the same for the ecotech that they have more features and you can sync them together.I guess I'll have to see the flow in my 150 when I set it up might run a bar along the back with multiple return nozzles coming in

I myself as others don't have either one but I've heard good things bad things. You can always get what you can afford now an update to what you have

I was torn over the two and ended up going with the gyre xf-130. I figured it was a cheaper place to jump in and I could easily turn it around and sell it if I didn't like it. I love it so far! Gives me plenty of flow for my 68g tank at only 30%-40%

im gonna try the vortech mp40qd it has more modes to choose from plus you can link more than one together im gonna be post my build for my 150 so keep an eye out
