So I know this may not be popular, but I have been running no powerhead in my Red Sea 34 Gallon AIO. I was running one early on, I forget how much flow it produced, but I noticed no matter where I put it, my Hammers/Frogs were being blown around too much. I have just been running my return as the main source of flow and they seem very happy over the past 8 months or so.

I have been having issues with a couple zoas stretching and no matter what I do with lighting, they seem to do the same. I figure it might be from lack of flow? I'm really just looking for something to give that half of the tank a bit more flow. I don't really want to disrupt my Euphyllia on the other side if possible. Is there a powerhead that would work best for this?

Here is a picture of my tank. I was possibly looking to add it to the left side of the tank so it send flow over to the Zoas on the right? I think that might be the best approach.

There are many powerheads you can use. This will depend on your overall water flow, your budget, and your space. In our 50-gallon we use three different powerheads, although we could have just used only one. We like the Red Sea Wave 45 but also have the MP10 and MP40. We only have them set at the lowest setting...well, close to that.

On my 30g am using 2 mp10 running around 40 percent each and if i go any higher i end up in a sandstorm

I run a jaebo slw-20 on my 25g at the lowest setting and it blows a lot around. It has a wide push so I assume one on each end would provide enough for sps.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but what are you using for your return?

I was in the same boat. It seemed like no matter where I put powerheads in my tank (IM 30L), my hammers and frogspawn were getting too much flow and wouldn't open all the way up. I have dual returns in my tank, so I started with two 1/2" RFGs and no powerheads. That worked pretty well and everything looked pretty happy, but I had a few "dead spots".

I ended up splitting each 1/2" return to dual 1/4" RFGs with locline Y adapter/reducers. Same amount of flow from the pump, but much better distribution with four smaller RFGs instead of two bigger ones. Everything still seems happy, and I've eliminated most of the dead spots.

It's not perfect, but I'm getting there and, most importantly, I have good flow all through the tank.

I’m not even sure what I have for my return but a quick update. I added a Hygger mini and it’s perfect. For $70, if this holds up, it’s fantastic. Perfect amount of flow for both sides as I mounted it on the mid part of the back left glass. It goes over to my zoas and only gives my hammers a little bit more flow than usual but they look very happy
